William Richmond Thames

William Richmond "Bill" Thames was born on May 13, 1940, in New Brockton, Alabama. He passed away on February 2, 2025, in McRae, Georgia, following an extended illness. Bill dedicated much of his life to his work as a driver for the Teamsters Union, a division of Sears & Roebuck, where he was known for his reliability and commitment.

He is survived by his wife, Vera Alice Thames, and his three sons, William Robert Thames (Donna) of Hawkinsville, Anthony Bruce Thames (Clara) of McRae, and Kenneth Richmond Thames (Trisha) of Fitzgerald. Bill also leaves behind a cherished family of half-brothers and half-sisters, including Chris Hammock of St. Mary's, Richard Dixion of Hixson, TN, Billie G. McAllister of Charleston, TN, Billie Stewart of Millersville, MD, Linda Kidwell of Chattanooga, TN, Deborah White of Bowie, MD, and Lisa Drummond of Newnan. His legacy continues through several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Lee Thames; his parents, William R. Powell and Virginia Windham Hammock; a sister, Betty Hodges; and half-brothers Mike Hammock, William "Ricky" Powell, Jr., Michael Powell, and Eric "Wayne" Powell.

A graveside funeral service will be held in his honor at 1:00P.M., Monday, February 10, 2025, at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, Georgia. Bill's family invites all who knew him to join in remembering a life that was lived with purpose and dedication. His presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
