Virgil Carl “Pete” Cameron, Jr., 79, of Milan, died Friday, February 10, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 12:00Noon, Sunday, February 12, at Bethlehem (Sandhill) United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mr. Cameron was the son of the late Virgil Carl Cameron, Sr. and the late Ida Maude Phillips Cameron. A veteran of the US Army Reserves, he was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was an active member of Bethlehem (Sandhill) United Methodist Church. Mr. Cameron retired from the US Department of Agriculture as a soil conservation agent with 33 years of service before again retiring from the Telfair County Tax Assessor’s Office with 22 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Smith Cameron, Milan; son, Carl Cameron, Fitzgerald; step-daughter, Angela (Tony) Mefford, Ozark, AL; brother, Bill (Velma) Cameron, McRae; grandchildren, Andy (Kaitlin) Cameron, Aaron (Allyson) Cameron, Todd (Andrea) Mefford, Megan Mefford (Trent) and Zachery (Robin) Mefford; 8 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Brian (Sabrina) Cameron and niece, Jennifer (Donnie) Spires.
