Velma Dover Spires, 70, of McRae, died Friday, December 16. Funeral services will be at 2:00P.M., Sunday, December 18, at Milan Church of God with burial in the Sandhill Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 6:00-9:00P.M.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mrs. Spires was the daughter of the late Jim and Meda Smith Dover. She was co-owner/operator of McRae Dairy Queen for more than forty years and was a member of McRae Church of God.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Jack Spires of McRae; sons, Jackson (Connie) Spires, McRae; James (Debbie) Spires, Alamo; and Hank (Tammy) Spires, Helena; brothers and sisters, Bonnie (Osborne) Walker, Margaret Shepherd, Rachel (Roy) Henderson, Henry Dover and Elvin (Vivian) Dover, all of McRae, and Marietta (Vester) Spires, Abbeville; grandchildren, Casey Spires, Charlotte Horne, Margie Joiner, Pam Spires, Ashley Adams, Jason Spires, Benjamin Spires and Kristy Spires; great-grandchildren, Christian Horne, Hunter Horne, Abigail Spires, O’Ryan Joiner and Kaden Adams. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
