T.J. Bowen, 86, of Milan, died Wednesday, September 26. Funeral services will be at 11:00A.M., Saturday, September 29, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in the Milan Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 6:00-8:00P.M.
A native and lifelong resident of Milan, Mr. Bowen was the son of the late Edwin and Beulah Wells Bowen. A member of Milan Baptist Church and one of the oldest members of the Milan Masonic Lodge where he recently received his 50-year pin, he believed in living life to the fullest. One of the oldest remaining World War II veterans, he was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and the Purple Heart Award. Mr. Bowen was a very patriotic man; faithfully attending all local veterans programs. He was retired from Civil Service.
Mr. Bowen loved his hometown of Milan and even in illness he could hardly wait to return to Milan. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and was preceded in death by sisters, Georgia Margaret Warwaxer and Christine M. Williams.
Survivors include his wife, Polly S. Bowen, Milan; daughters, Deborah (Robert) Belcher, Columbus, Donna (Brian) Barker, Navarre, FL, and Teresa (Michael) Yeomans, Jacksonville; sister, Druscilla Pope, Monticello; and grandchildren, Steven (Lizett) Belcher, Keith Belcher, Tyler Barker, Amy Yeomans, Melanie (Jeremy) Fish and Daniel Yeomans.
