Sally Parker Garrison died Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral services will be at 2:00P.M., Friday, October 31, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, Georgia, with burial in the Rockwell Church Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service.
Ms. Garrison was born in Telfair County on February 2, 1939 to the late Tommy R. Yawn, Sr. and Alma H. Yawn of Rhine, Georgia. Growing up in the Rockwell Community she truly believed that there was no place like “home”. After graduation from the Macon Hospital as a medical technologist she moved to Jacksonville, Florida and married the late Levi R. Parker. She worked at Riverside Hospital for thirty-two years first as a medical technologist and later as a supervisor. She was dedicated to her work and served as mentor to many young technicians.
Ms. Garrison was a member of the Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church. Her favorite hobby was gardening. She loved digging in the dirt, planting flowers, and feeding the birds. She loved all sports which probably stemmed from playing basketball in high school. She was an avid football fan, supporting the Georgia Bulldogs and the Jacksonville Jaguars. She could debate with anyone on the skills of players, offering great critique on plays called by the coaching staff. She was a devoted wife, mother, and mother-in-law. She was a wonderful “Grandma” to her grandson, with whom she treasured every moment spent.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Harry Garrison, and son, James Robert Parker of Jacksonville, FL; siblings, Henry M. Yawn and Betty L. Dowdy of Rhine, and Grover Yawn of Milan.
Survivors include her daughter, Penny Coleman, son-in-law, Richard Coleman and grandson, Davis Coleman, all of Moultrie; sister, Nancy (Jim) Starr of Haddock; brother, Tommy R. (Sherry) Yawn, Jr. of Rhine; sisters-in-law, Viola Yawn and Joan Yawn; brother-in-law, Hez Dowdy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
