Roger Duncan Batchelor, Sr., 87, of McRae, died peacefully, Thursday, December 11, at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00P.M., Sunday, December 14, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, with burial in the Church Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 6:00-8:00P.M.
A native and lifelong resident of McRae, Mr. Batchelor was the son of the late Charles Dewey Batchelor, Sr. and Myra Eliza Stallworth Batchelor. He was a member of Bethlehem (Sandhill)) United Methodist Church. Mr. Batchelor served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and the US Army during the Korean War. After returning home he was employed with Roydon Wear for 38 years. Mr. Batchelor was preceded in death by a sister and brothers, Agatha Greenwood, Charles Dewey Batchelor, Jr. and Albert Paul Batchelor, Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Rose Ann Rogers Batchelor, McRae; son, Roger Duncan (Lori) Batchelor, Jr., McRae; daughter, Susan Elaine (Henry) McLean, Perry; brothers, Oscar Batchelor, North Augusta and Walter “Bud” Batchelor, Chapin, SC; sister, Marjorie Leger, Cordele; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jay) Bellflower, Roger Benjamin (Liz) Batchelor, Justin Rhodes McLean and Laura Katelyn McLean; and great-grandchildren, Julianna Nicole Bellflower, Judson Charles Bellflower, Jace Benjamin Bellflower, Bristol Leigh Batchelor and Baylor Rose Batchelor. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
