Oswald Alton Best, Sr., 88, of McRae, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 18, following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 1:00P.M., Wednesday, April 21, at McRae Church of God with burial at Telfair Memorial Gardens.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mr. Best was the son of the late John Wade Best and the late Madie McLeod Best. A truck driver for nearly 60 years, he had driven for Georgia Highway/Transus, Griffin Warehouse and Charles Taylor Trucking. Mr. Best, along with a few others, built the McRae Church of God where he has held membership since 1968 and was clerk/treasurer for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his precious wife, Rozelle Patrick Best, and a son, Oswald Alton “Al” Best, Jr.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Mary Jo Best of Carrollton; daughter-in-law, Anne Best Benedetti of McRae; brother and sister-in-law, Malette and Gwen Best of McRae and brother, Horace Best of Eastman; sister, Esther Brown of Milan sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Billy Ray Tanner of McRae; grandchildren, Melissa Best, William Best, both of McRae, Connor Best and Audrey Best, both of Carrollton; and long-time friend, Lois Towns of Milan.
