Mellie Lamar “M.L.” Harrelson, 77, of Helena, died Tuesday, November 24. Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Friday, November 27, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, with burial in the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, 6:00-8:00P.M.
A native of Wheeler County and lifelong resident of Helena, Mr. Harrelson was the son of the late Mellie and Fannie Mae Jones Harrelson. Having served in the United States Air Force and a fifty-year member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, he was very active in serving the community as McRae Housing Authority member, Mayor and City Council Member of Helena for forty years, Job Training Unlimited member and Woodmen of the World Treasurer and National Delegate for twelve years. Mr. Harrelson also worked as Production Manager with Roydon Wear for 32 years, and worked with DNR Parks for 8 years.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Boyd Harrelson, Helena; son, Donnie (Vicky) Conner, Vidalia; sister, Geraldine Clements, Albany; grandchildren, Lee (Meredith) Conner, Helena, Christie (Elijah) Shaw, Alamo, and, the apple of his eye, the great-grandkids, Bryce Conner, Symphony Shaw, Joshawa Shaw and Harmony Shaw. Many loved nieces and nephews also survive.
