On Tuesday, August 7, Willie Lucille Russ Williams, 91, was called to her heavenly home.
A lifetime resident of Telfair County, Mrs. Williams was born on June 1, 1921, in the Grahamville Community, to Jasper Quincy Russ, Sr. and Sarah (Sadie) Graham Russ. She attended Uniondale and Workmore Schools in Telfair County. Mrs. Williams was the widow of William C. (Bill) Williams and lived in Lumber City for many years. A faithful member of Lumber City United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Lumber City Womans Club, and other community organizations, she was President and Chairperson of the Board of the Bank of Lumber City.
Mrs. Williams loved to travel and enjoyed music. She attended Senior Citizens’ Lunch and was an avid bingo participant. Her support of the Americus Sub-District Laity meetings helped to provide encouragement so that others would attend and missions would be better served. Mrs. Williams lived by the Golden Rule.
Survivors include a son, Larry Williams, Lumber City; daughter, Virginia and Randy Hand, Lumber City; grandchildren, Regina Hartley and Susie (Troy) Spires, both of Lumber City, Sabrena Waldon and Shannon Williams, both of Hazlehurst; great-grandchildren, Taylor Hartley, Bailey Spires and Graham Spires, all of Lumber City, and Breanna Waldon, Hazlehurst; brother, J.Q. and Emily Russ, Jacksonville; nieces, Kay (Bob) Kyff, Mt. Pleasant Beach, NJ, and Yvonne (David) Altman, Helena; great-niece, Kristina Kyff, Roswell; and great-nephews, Russ Kyff and Kolby Kyff, both of Mt. Pleasant Beach, NJ, and Joseph Altman, Helena.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, August 10, 6:00 – 8:00P.M., at Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae. Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Saturday, August 11, at Lumber City United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Telfair Memorial Gardens, Highway 341, McRae.
