Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Prescott will be held at 11:00A.M., Monday, June 8, at Lumber City United Methodist Church with burial in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, 5:00-7:00P.M.
Joseph Franklin Prescott, Sr. was born to Wilbur and Lillian Prescott on November 9, 1926. A native of Burke County, Georgia, he graduated from Georgia Tech in 1950. Mr. Prescott was the one-time mayor of Lumber City, Georgia, before moving to Atlanta and working for the Federal Aviation Administration for over 30 years. He later worked in Washington, DC for Martin Marietta before returning to Lumber City in 1991 and where he lived for the remainder of his life. While there, Mr. Prescott was the owner/manager of Prescott Timbers. He was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Phillip and later the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, then, upon his return to Lumber City, Lumber City United Methodist Church.
Mr. Prescott was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lamar Prescott, Sr.; and his sister, Ann P. Thompson; as well as his first wife, Jane Jordan Prescott. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Laney T. Prescott; his children, Elizabeth Prescott Sanders and Joseph F. Prescott, Jr. and his wife, Liz; stepchildren, Sylvia Ray and her husband, Emory, Byron Thompson, and Glenn Thompson and his wife, Ann; as well as his sister, Dell Jones. Mr. Prescott is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
