John Lee Thomas, 84, of McRae, died Wednesday, July 15. Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Saturday, July 18, at McRae First Baptist Church, with burial at Telfair Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Friday, 6:00-8:00P.M., at Vaughn Funeral Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mr. Thomas was the son of the late John Edward Thomas and the late Essie Brown Thomas. He retired from Georgia D.O.T. with 34 years of service, then worked with both J.E. Dopson & Sons and NRCS in Dodge County. Mr. Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Esther Bailey Thomas, McRae; children, Johnny (Kathy) Thomas, McRae, Donna Lynn Howard, Scotland and Michael (Joy) Thomas, Milan; brother and sisters, Ernest (Gail) Thomas and Liz Jackson, Macon, Nan Teddars, Milan and Dale Carroll, Statesboro; grandchildren, Joshua (Brandi) Thomas, Jordan Thomas, Christopher (Christen) Willcox, Amy (Jeremy) Kaiser, Casey Thomas, Jesse (Megan) Thomas, Nicole (Ross) Roberson; and great-grandchildren, Caden Kaiser, Chelson Kaiser, Jase Thomas and Savannah Kate Willcox.
