John Wesley Beasley

John Wesley Beasley, 80, of Milan, died Thursday, January 23.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00P.M., Sunday, January 26, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, with burial in the Milan Cemetery.  Visitation is Saturday, 6:00-9:00P.M.

A native and lifelong resident of Milan, Mr. Beasley was the son of the late John Morris Beasley and Nonie Carter Beasley.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Morris E. Beasley.  An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Beasley was employed with Robins Air Force Base until his retirement in 1976, and later worked with the Telfair County Senior Center until he again retired in 1996.  He was a lifetime member of Milan United Methodist Church where he was Sunday School Superintendent from 1981-2001.  He was a former member of the Methodist Men’s Club and the 3M Charge Choir, and a former Milan city councilman.  A 50-year Lions Club member, Mr. Beasley had served in all officer positions.  He was a charter member of the Milan Booster Club and was a faithful and avid sports fan of Telfair County sports and Georgia Tech.  The city of Milan honored Mr. Beasley by naming their ball field “Beasley Field” in recognition of his dedication and tireless efforts for their recreation program.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Varnadoe Beasley, Milan; close friend, Jan Marchant, Milan; and nephews, Johnny (Nancy) Beasley, Smiths, AL and Billy (Kay) Beasley, Byron.
