Jimmy Gaines Patterson, 74, of Helena, died Wednesday, June 19. Funeral services will be at 2:00P.M., Saturday, June 22, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in the Oakland (Helena) Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 7:00 – 9:00P.M.
A native of Telfair County where he lived most of his life, Jimmy was the son of Pauline Towns Patterson Garrison and the late Frank Patterson. An Army veteran, he attended Georgia Military College, Perry Business School and Macon State College. Jimmy had been a Peace Officer since 1963, having worked with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, McRae Police Department, Telfair County Sheriff’s Office, and the Helena Police Department. He served on the Advisory Board of both the Helena CB&T Bank and Three Rivers Home Health. Of Methodist faith, Jimmy was a retired fireman and a member of the Exchange Club. He also retired after 38 years with the city of Helena, having worked as both a policeman and city manager.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Silvia Boyd Patterson, Helena; mother, Pauline Garrison, Helena; children, Dale (Linda) Patterson, Wilmington, NC, Gail (Mark) Walz, Macon, Dilma (Johnny) Slusher, Helena and Stacy (Sue) Giles, Broxton; brothers, Frank (Patricia) Patterson, Macon and Bobby Patterson, Laurel, MS. Eight grandchildren survive, including a special granddaughter, Karla Slusher, as well as several nieces and nephews.
