Jim Shelton Rhodes, 84, of McRae, died Thursday, May 21. Funeral services will be held at 2:00P.M., Sunday, May 24, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with burial at Central Grove Church Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 7:00-9:00P.M.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mr. Rhodes was the son of the late Joe and Margie Hulett Rhodes and was married to the late Audrey Purvis Rhodes. He was a hard worker all of his life, having worked in pulpwood and logging, as well as being a mechanic and backhoe operator. Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his siblings, Louise Rhodes Rogers, Amy Lou Rhodes Fulford, Inez Rhodes Williams, and J.B. Rhodes.
Survivors include a son, C.J. Rhodes and wife, Allie, of Uvalda; daughter, Cupie Lane Davenport and husband, Steve, of Enid, OK; brother-in-law, Charles Purvis, Lumber City; grandchildren, Heather Faye Fowler, Jimmy Joe Rhodes, Thomas McArthur Rhodes, Jessica Miller and husband, Josh, Josh Holland and Julie Carson. Eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
