James O. Ray, 81, of McRae, died Friday, November 02. Funeral services will be at 2:00P.M., Sunday, November 4, at McRae United Methodist Church with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 6:00-8:00P.M.
A native of Telfair County where he lived for most of his life, Mr. Ray was the son of the late William Morris and Martha Evelyn Ray. A Master Sergeant in the Korean Conflict, he worked with Lance for many years, then for 36 years was the owner/operator of James O. Ray Ford, Inc. before retiring the franchise. He was a member of the McRae United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #80, and was a Mason. Mr. Ray was Past District Governor of the Lions Club, a Melvin Jones Fellow award recipient, and was presented a Lifetime Membership by the McRae Lions Club, as well as being inducted into the Lions Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Erma Perry Ray; daughter, Debbie Kathryn Ray; and son, James O. Ray, Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol (Randy) Kahrmann; son, Jimmy Ray (Donna Thompson); and grandsons, Nick Kahrmann, Matt Kahrmann and A.J. Kahrmann, all of McRae; brother and sisters, Myrtle Harbin, Centerville, Betty (Roy) Smith, McRae, and Kenneth (Cheryl) Ray, Jacksonville, FL; sisters-in-law, Sybil Nolen, Toombsboro, Mary Ann Hampton, Gray, Janet (W.C.) Donaldson and Patricia (Arnold) Donaldson, Statesboro; companion, Jettye Sue Anderson, McRae; and numerous nieces and nephews.
