Henrietta Louise (Hennilu) Maxwell Geiger, 96, died on Sunday, November 20, at Serenity Hospice in Dublin, Georgia. Funeral services for Mrs. Geiger will be held on Wednesday, November 23, at 11:00A.M., at the United Methodist Church of McRae, Georgia with Rev. Jimbo Dominey and Rev. Dr. Edwin L. Willis officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in McRae.
Mrs. Geiger, the daughter of Annie Sarah Combs and Oscar Newton Maxwell, was born in Milledgeville, GA, on May 10, 1915. As a graduate of Georgia State College for Women, she began her teaching career in Cedar Grove (Laurens County) and then taught at McRae-Helena Elementary School for 25 years. She was a long-time resident of McRae before moving to Sheridan Living in Dublin to be near her children.
“Miss Hennilu,” as she was affectionately known, was a member of the United Methodist Church of McRae. She often cared for the needs of others through her service as a member of the Telfair County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and through her ministry to the McRae Manor Nursing Home. She enjoyed working in her yard and delighted in the beauty of God’s creation.
Her husband, Lawson Adam Geiger, Sr., and a son, Newton Larry Geiger, preceded Mrs. Geiger in death. Her survivors include a son, Lawson A. (Merle) Geiger, Jr. of Dublin, and a daughter, Jewell G. Davis, of Dublin, as well as four grandchildren, David W. (Beth) Bowman, Los Alamos, New Mexico; Keith A. (Sheri) Geiger, Dublin; Carla D. (Chris) Coley, Dudley; Kelly G. (Charles) Banks, Trenton, North Carolina; nine great-granddaughters, and one great-great-grandson.
The family will receive family and friends at Vaughn Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 6:00 – 8:00P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to McRae United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, McRae, GA 31055.
