Harvey Lee Spires, Sr., 68, of Milan, died Wednesday, August 14. Funeral services will be held at 5:00P.M., Sunday, August 18, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, with burial in the Midway Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 6:00 - 9:00P.M.
A native of Wheeler County and longtime resident of Telfair County, Mr. Spires was the son of the late Howard Daniel and Inez Logue Spires. A lifelong farmer, he was also a minister and a self-employed general contractor. Mr. Spires was a member of DeBerry Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Spires and a great-grandson, Nicolas Lowery.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Dyal Spires of Milan; daughters, Genise Spires Wilkes of Milan, Erin Spires (Paul) Bryant of Blackshear and Rhonda Curtis of Punta Gorda, FL; sons, Harvey Lee Spires, Jr., Stacy Spires, Jonathan Eric Spires and Bubba Spires, all of Milan; brothers, Jimmy (Jackie) Spires of McRae and Hardy (Maudlean) Spires of Milan; sister, Carolyn Towns of McRae; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
