Faye Ponder Parks, 91, of McRae, died Friday, May. 6. Funeral services will be at 3:30P.M., Sunday, May 8, at the Rhine United Methodist Church with burial in the Bay Springs Cemetery, Rhine. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00P.M., Saturday at Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae and at Rhine United Methodist Church one hour prior to the funeral service.
A native of Rhine, Mrs. Parks was the daughter of the late Carrie Mizell and Robert E. Ponder and was the wife of the late Lt. William Scott Parks, Jr.. She was a member of Rhine United Methodist Church since the age of 8, where she had been Head of Children’s Division, taught Sunday School classes and had been President of the Women’s Society of Christian Service.
A graduate of Eastman High School, Wesleyan College, and Droughn’s School of Commerce, Mrs. Parks taught in the Dodge County School system and was a member of the Ocmulgee Regional Library Board. She also worked with the U.S. Government in the Internal Security Division and the staff of the Dean of Students at Agnes Scott College.
Upon retiring, Mrs. Parks moved to McRae where she had an associate membership in the McRae United Methodist Church.
She is survived by sons William Scott Parks IV (Dian) of Austin TX and Robert Ponder Parks (Patricia) of Birmingham AL; sister, Bobbie Ponder Smith of McRae, GA; four grandchildren, Laura Avery (Christopher) of Austin TX, Steven Parks of Austin TX, Christopher Parks of New York, NY, and Megan Parks of Worcester, MA; and one great-grandchild, Ashlyn Avery.
