Bessie Lee Tucker Owens, 94, of Alamo, died Monday, May 12. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Friday, May 16, in the Oak Grove Cemetery, McRae, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Vaughn Funeral Home.
A native of Helena, Ms. Owens was the daughter of the late John and Bessie Coleman Tucker and was the wife of the late William Parks “Billie” Owens, Jr. A homemaker for most of her life, she had formerly worked with the Telfair County Commissioner’s Office and was known for her fine catering. An avid bridge player, Ms. Owens was a member of the Florence Lewis Duplicate Bridge Club and was a member of the McRae Duplicate Bridge Club for more than fifty years. She was a member of the McRae United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by a son, Scott Riley Owens and a grandson, William Parks Owens, IV.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Owens (Hugh) Hodges of Winder; son, Bill (Jan) Owens of Alamo; and grandchildren, Lori Owens (Roger) Elliott, Shelli Owens (Chip) Mann, Mitzie Hodges (Richard) Geddings, Scott (Felicia) Hodges and Heath (Melissa) Hodges. Eleven great-grandchildren also survive.
