Anne Bradfield Tyor passed away peacefully on May 27, 2012 in the Pavilion at Croasdaile Village Retirement Community. Anne was born in McRae, Georgia at her grandfather’s home on February 19, 1925. As a child, Anne took dancing and piano lessons, and she also played the drum in the marching band. Anne graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1945 after attending Georgia State College for Women for one year. Anne was active throughout college on the swim team, including synchronized swimming. She also sang with the glee club, served on the student government, and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After graduating from college, Anne attended Duke University for a dietetic internship. It was at Duke where Anne met and eventually married Dr Malcolm Paul Tyor on October 19, 1946 in her parent’s home in McRae. She and Mal lovingly raised four children in Forest Hills in Durham, N.C. where Anne was very involved in each of her children’s lives. Anne was also an active member of Duke Memorial United Methodist Church, Durham Garden Club, and Durham Women’s Club where she created and cherished life-long friendships. She and several friends volunteered every week at the Nearly New Shoppe and remained devoted to this cause for many years. Anne loved Duke basketball and was a very serious fan, to say the least. Anne will always be remembered the most, however, for her exuberant love and knowledge of flowers. She even took rigorous courses and passed a very difficult exam in order to become a state judge in her 70’s!
Anne is survived by her four children and spouses: Gina Tyor, Jackie and Tom Schauer, Bill and Laura Tyor, and Marti and Lou Schottelkotte; her seven grandchildren: Jessica and Scott McKeen, Heather and Dave Gutkowski, Kari and Bryan Roberts, Anna Tyor, Evan Tyor, Aria Schottelkotte, Bryce Schottelkotte, and Bailey Schottelkotte; and, her four great grandchildren: Drew and Audrey McKeen and Justin and Sophia Gutkowski.
A Memorial Service was held Saturday, June 30, at 4:00 PM at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church in Durham, NC, followed by a reception in the Parlor at the church. Another is planned in the McRae area to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Duke Women’s Club, TFWC-NC-Durham Women’s Club, C/O Mrs Jewel Simpson/Treasurer, 2512 Wilbon St., Durham NC 27704.
