Addie Carolyn Garrison Briggs, 83, of Milan, died Monday, April 23. A funeral service will be held at 11:00A.M., Thursday, April 26, at McRae Presbyterian Church with burial at Midway Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6:00-8:00P.M., at Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Ms. Briggs was the daughter of the late Levi Saxton Garrison, Sr. and the late Lula Mae Ray Garrison. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. William Jesse Briggs, III. Ms. Briggs was a former elementary and middle school teacher and former counselor at both Dodge YDC and Wheeler County Corrections Corporation of America. She was also a graduate of Asbury University and a member of McRae Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her children, Laurel Briggs (Mark William) Straughan of Milan and William “Will” Saxton (Marisa Chase) Briggs, Lynchburg, VA; brother, Levi Saxton (Priscilla Gaston) Garrison, Jr. of McRae; and grandchildren, Margaret Caroline Straughan, Jonathan William Straughan, William “Liam” Matthew Briggs and Charles Joseph Briggs.
